On Friday, January 27th, 2011, VEF Momentum welcomed Shane Luke, Director of Digital Product Management at Nike Inc. to the Vancouver entrepreneurial community. Shane, an industry vet with over 10 years of experience in digital technology and product development, shared how he came to work for the world’s most successful sportswear company and how his division fits into Nike’s big picture.
Attendees found out what it takes to bring Nike’s digital sports products from concept to creation, as well as the biggest challenges his team faces during development. Shane also dispelled some persistent myths surrounding digital product development and how to avoid falling prey to them.
About Shane Luke
Shane Luke is Director of Digital Product Management at Nike Inc., leading software development teams in the creation of emerging technology for enhancing athletic performance and sport.
After graduating from UBC with a BSc in mathematical physics, Shane began his career in investment and finance, including a stint financing technology start ups during the first dot com boom.
After the boom fizzled in the early 2000’s, Shane directed his efforts to technology itself, and focused on improving its development process, and changing how companies approached building great software.
He joined Electronic Arts in 2004 and managed video game test and development projects before leaving to obtain a Master’s degree in Cognitive Science at Simon Fraser University.
Shane returned to EA in 2008 as Development Director of its global online group, where he successfully built a world-wide team to meet the demands of EA’s products for online gaming functionality.
In early 2011 Shane joined Nike’s Digital Sport group, where he manages product development on the front-lines of Nike’s future. Shane is regarded for his expediency and vision, which has led to the successful delivery of quality products and services for two global fortune 500 companies.
